Chapter 4: Handful of Papers

I was loaded this semester. Loaded with campaign materials. I was appointed to be a CAMPAIGN MANAGER.

It's amusing that my friend would choose me. Reasons why they SHOULDN'T choose me:

  • I can't go to immediate meetings. I have a 2-hour travel time.
  • My academics are my priority.
  • I'm NOBODY in school.
What's flattering is they still choose to be with me.

I was hesitant at first, because I was compelled(IRONIC), I never want to involve myself in any political forms. Why? Criticisms. I handle them neatly, what I can't is when people kept on asking the same question infinitely. But in every comment that they give me and my team I alter it with something positive so they would be stronger and keep moving.

Roles of the campaign manager(what I did):

  • Attend meetings. I attended a few, it wouldn't be counted productive but I can say that at least the effort is counted.
  • Compliment the team.
  • Know the team. Know the strengths and make the revert the weaknesses into strengths.
  • Eat chocolates. It's what keeps me alive all the time.
  • Carry your planner. To keep track. You can also use your phone but my phone will die with torture.
  • Strategic Planning.
  • Be strong. Physically and mentally. Be strong for the team.
I campaigned for the student council of our college. This experience is unforgettable to me because it was my first. My first to go room to room and present not just myself but the team as well. To present excuse letters to our professors. To ask help from other people I never asked before. To run back and forth never really cared who sees me. To wear yellow in school, and to wear a sheer top in school because it's the only yellow thing I have.

As I said, I was compelled to do this but as the time goes I learned to like it, because:

  • I got noticed.
  • I knew new people.
  • I got compliments.
  • I practiced my way of speaking in a crowd.
  • I love planning!!!
  • I came out of my comfort zone.

"New is always better!" -Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother) I never liked change in my life, so I considered this new experience as an improvement in my life. I was pushed through the limits but like my favorite movie said "The limit does not exist" (Mean Girls- 2004). So never put yourself in the limit line, a lot of experiences and opportunities are yet to come all you have to do is to grab it and make the best out of it. -CrischelleA
